One of the biggest problems we face today as a society is the effects of greenhouse gases on our environment which contributes significantly to global warming. Unless something is done as a nation it will prove detrimental to the future of all Australians and even the world. So it is important that as a nation we understand the problems we are facing and work together to limit the greenhouse gas emitions to improve the future of all people and our environment

I would have to say lack of education and awareness. As a primary school teacher I am very passionate about educating the new generation in aim to advocate for environmental issues. I feel generally society has a very carefree attitude due to lack of education of current issues and statistics. I feel it is my role to fundamentally inform young children and families within the community and actively participate in promoting awareness and assisting to develop an enviromentally conscious society.

pollution. Asthmatics are suffering the most, the smoke and pollutants from cars, buses, motorbikes, aeroplanes and especially now tih tunnels even driving your car through a tunnel your at a high risk of an asthma attack. Also our people polluting the streets with rubbish, ciggarette butts.Laziness is abig part of our pollution. We need to start changing the way we live.If people start leaving thier cars at home and catching public transport it will make such a difference, smokers having their own butt trays, people stop littering on our streets and oceans. We need to start thinking ofbogger and better ways to clear up the air.we have to think of our health and out future family.

Global warming. There are many problems that our environment faces today including land use for things like urban development and agriculture, pollution and the depletion of natural resources all of which have an immense affects on the earth. These affects can include climate change and global warming which harm the earth and threaten all the living things that exist here and our way of life. Immediate and drastic action and education of these issues is needed if we are going to to save our earth and keep it healthy so that future generations may enjoy nature and all the wonderful things the earth has to offer and has provided us with.

Logging of tree's and especially of Old growth tree's. Since tree's produce oxygen most of our climate change is due to the unbalance of natural resourses eg tree's for oxygen. Man is logging tree's which means there is not enough oxygen or minerals to filter the toxic gases the humans make. Yeah sure we plant tree's which is good but those trees don't produce the same amount of oxygen and minerals that the older trees have and with all the polution those trees won't last long. There are plenty of ways to make use of what we have instead of logging down the trees which we live on!

In today's world there are various concerns regarding the environment, such as pollution and greenhouse gases, global warming, extinction of flora and fauna. The issue I would classify as the most concerning one would be global warming which has resulted as a consequence of pollution and greenhouse gases. As a result this has brought other issues mainly the warming up of the earth which is changing the weather patterns quite drastically. Many catastrophic weather events have occurred over the past couple of years such as typhoons, hurricanes, cyclones and extreme storms as an outcome of the change in the ocean currents due to global warming.

I believe that this is an issue that needs to be dealt with straight away and everyone from major companies to individuals at home can make a difference to improve the ecological world we live in.

I think climate change and air pollution has a big part in the problem and I believe we need to do something about it now so the future generations can have a chance

Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Transportation.. Transportation sources accounted for 29% of total US greenhouse gas emissions in 2006. Transportation is the fastest growing source of Greenhouse Gases in the US, accounting for 47% of the net increase in total emissions since 1990. Transportation is also the largest end use source of CO2, which is the most prevalent greenhouse gas.  These estimates of transportation Greenhouse Gases dont include emissions from additional lifecycle processes, such as the extraction and refining of fuel and the manufacture of vehicles, which are also a significant source of domestic and international Greenhouse Gas emissions.

I believe the largest problem today is Global Warming!

All elements, such as Greenhouse gases and polution etc are continuing to grow are to big of an impact on our world and environment!

Even though we have put new procedures in place to reduce greenhouse gases, there is so much more we can do.

As Australia is an island with a comparatively small population we are free of many environmental problems that other parts of the world face. However as our population grows and our demands and dependence on the environment and the land grows we will continue to see the effects that this has on the Australian landscape, flora and fauna. Although the health of the Australian environment is comparatively good there are many environmental issues that we face as a nation. Read more...

The environment on earth is at great danger due to emissions of greenhouse gases. The greatest contributor to the greenhouse effect is carbon dioxide which makes up 72% of the total greenhouse emissions.
Carbon dioxide emissions are the greatest contributor to global warming. CO2 is inevitably created by burning fossil fuels. The emissions of CO2 have been dramatically increased within the last 50 years and are still increasing by almost 3% each year. read more...

think the biggest problem our environment faces today is Global Warming:The increase in the average temperature of the Earth's near-surface airs and oceans in recent decades and its projected continuation. As well as air pollution: Many of the processes involved in industry, commerce, agriculture and in the home produce air pollution (as do natural biological geological events). Specific examples are the combustion processes used to provide heat and electricity and to power transport, the manufacture of refrigerants and solvents by industry, and the decomposing matter on landfill sites.

I feel that the biggest environmental problems/issues are those caused by our own actions and lifestyles.

Global warming and climate change are a result of our neglect and over use of our environment and its resources. This is a huge problem as it has affects on our flora and fauna and on ourseleves and our future generations.

GLOBAL WARMING! the weather is abnormal, the heat is getting way to hot, even though we are just warming up after an ice age 10,000 years ago, the heat is incredible.Heat waves and periods of unusually warm weather  ths strange environment disasters,Ocean warming, sea-level rise and coastal flooding, Glaciers melting, antartica melting away causing sea level rise, the sea creatures up the coast are gradually swimming south and most are dying because its not their natural environment they are used to. Earlier spring arrival and Plant and animal range shifts and population changes  which crates problems with problems with the environment and the balance of nature. Downpours, heavy snowfalls, flooding ,Droughts and fires are disturbing the environment and economics.

GLOBAL WARMING!!!!
According to the national academy of sciences, our earth's surface
temperature has risen by about 1 degree fahrenheit in the past century, with
accelerated warming during the past two decades. There is evidence that most
of the warming over the last 50 years is attributable to human activities.
Our human activities have altered the chemical compostion of the atmosphere
through buildup of greenhouse gases- such as carbon dioxide, methane and
nitrous oxide. read more...

i think one of our biggest problems in todays society are the youth of today. With the youth of today its all about a "throw away society" they dont know enough about the environment and ways in which the can help maintain a better future for us to live in, the youth of today are destroying our tomorrow, another major problem we all ignore, and infact is infront of us in our every day lives is the amount of pollution australia as a country produces day to day, with things such as agriculture, mining of core materials, coal, oil and fossil fuels, the amount off pollution that is produced is unbelievable, and the amount of australians whom dont know about this factor is even more shocking. i think there are many things in our environment that are slowly in a sense going down hill and there are also many ways we can prevent this and in doing so come together as communities to help better our lives in our environments, but i also believe the fact of not knowing about certain criterias to that are destroying our environment also plays a major role. i believe if more people knew, more people would change.

Amongst the numerous environmental problems we face today, the biggest one would be global warming. Many people do not understand that this is a matter that we face every single day and our activities heavily impact on the speed in worsening the matter. If all individuals make the effort to care about our mother earth we can at least reduce the speed of it. Not caring and helping our mother earth is selfish and inconsiderate, as we are taking away many of the privileges and beauties of our planet for the future by destroying it.

'What we do today, can impact what happens tomorrow'. Global
Warming appears to be the biggest problem our environment faces today.
Forests are drying, glaciers are melting and roads are collapsing. Global
Warming will likely continue for centuries because of the long natural
processes involved, however, there is still room for change, 'we' as
individuals, can become pro- active in the way we approach the issue of
Global Warming such as, recyling, planting trees and saving energy. With
enthuasiam and passion, i believe that the population of the world can make a difference ,read more...

A lack of genuiness in everything we do including, facing the issues. The whole basis of our way of life has become exploit if ou can get away with it. This includes everything including the planet. The North Pole disappeared by 25% in 2006. Once the poles are gone they are gone. There is no way we can return them. The poles are the cooling system in the air and ocean heat exchange. Without the poles the planetary cycles will stop there will be runaway green house effect and a total breakdown of the cyle of life. and we are gone with everything else.

Zeljka Rekic - Sydney

In my personal opinion I think the biggest problem our environment faces today is so much pollution that is created from so many gasses, by big trucks and factories mostly but also by cars. This is also making our Ozone layer change rapidly and making our environment change along with it. The yearly seasons are changing due to these factors. As our environment changes it can cause in some cases numerous amounts of new diseases unknown to today's medicine and therefore they would be left untreated. If we look after our environment we're looking after our health as well.
